This is the new split Gulfer has done with Fago.Sepia and it's pretty fucking amazing. I don't really know much about these guys (other than that they're from Montreal), but apon my first listen, it sounds like something the reptilian would do if they were more noodly with their guitar work. The singing could be a little better on this, but it doesn't take away too much from the music on here - I love anything that's math rock. The synths kind of sound corny at times, but they're rarely used throughout their songs so it's not that big of a deal. Song structure is really enjoyable and overall this thing is a fun listen. I really recommend picking this up (or atleast giving it a listen). Check it out.

Leer & Cerce - Split (2012)

Heard about this band a while ago but never really checked them out until now and man am I amazed. Leer are five dudes from Cali who play noodly screaming math rock and are amazing at it (I'm surprised how little this band is known about). They remind me a lot like Native but better: their screams aren't as shitty and their guitar work is a lot more melodic and better structured. Although they barely have anything out, people really need to check these guys out and support them; the music speaks for itself. Below is the link to their bandcamp where you can download their first EP (fo' free) and get the split with Cerce who are really cool too (I'll look into them later when I get a chance). Alta - Places (2012)

Just found out about this band the other day and man have I been slacking. I'm surprised that none of the blogs I follow have covered this DIY gem. I'm assuming most of you have no idea who they are (since they can't be tracked anywhere), but Alta are a four-piece post-hardcore band from Milwaukee who are rising to be something that should be heard. The instrumentation on this release is incredible; their noodly/shoegazy guitar work sounds like something Kidcrash would do if they decided to sound more like Explosions in the Sky. I also like how they put extra distortion on the bass, giving it that loud crunchy tone that sounds like a blown speaker. However, there are some set-backs with this release: the singer at times sounds like his voice is about to crack from trying to over scream and it sometimes gets drowned out as background noise. Nevertheless, the musicianship is so good on this thing that i'm willing to forget about that kinda shit. They also did a great job on producing this thing (are all DIY bands getting better at this?) for a band that no one knows about. I unfortunately don't have the download link for this release (since i can't find it anywhere), so I figured I'd just put up their bandcamp page so you could hopefully buy it and check out their other releases. This band is going to be one to pay attention to. Get into it.

The Reptilian - Full Health (2010)

I know I'm late as hell posting this, but this album is amazing. I know all of you who follow this kind of music know who The Reptilian is by now. Full Health is their best release yet and I'm sure the first thing that comes to mind is a screamier version of Native if that makes any sense. Ironically, The Reptilian have been doing this kind of shit longer than Native have; they just got big first. Full Health overall has a groovy, bouncy math rock sound with heavy parts throughout it. Their older stuff is a little dirtier than this (you can check it out on their bandcamp). This is a must have for any skramz fan.

Heard about this band from circling the drain and they're fucking ridiculous. The first thing that came to my mind was a more emo version of Tera Melos with shorter songs and Mike Kinsella-esque melodies. If you're a fan of the noodly math rock/emo thing, you should pick this up. I don't know if they're gonna do anything anytime soon, since they're latest release from a split with The Poison Control Center (I think they've might've broken up...?). This thing is still worth picking up though. Check it out.
